The battle network of the future is not only one network, but instead a network of networks. Moving away from more common hub-and-spoke network architecture, a vision of a more dynamic mesh of battle networks, that is reconfigurable, adaptable, and more resilient in light of threats and disruptions is becoming more prevalent. Thus, this development is likely to depend on technologies such as blockchain or distributed ledger and the increased performance in mobile devices, which allows the usage of more complex data analytics in a 5G network. As new forms of cooperation on a tactical level and cross-border cloud access are expected to increase in importance, network stability and shared access rights will be in focus.
