Laser propulsion systems are characterized by a propelling spacecraft that uses external laser beams as a source of energy. These methods differ from the set-up of conventional rockets that rely on energy provided by on-board liquid propellants. Using the laser propulsion system would free up two to five times as much payload space compared to conventional rockets, achieving significant cost efficiencies when sending payloads into low-earth orbit.
