Earth observation satellites generate tremendous amounts of data. But this data is received by ground stations in chunks over a significant period of time and has to be merged before it can be analyzed. While there have been crowdsourcing projects to do fundamental satellite imagery analysis on a very small scale, AI has the potential to expedite processing at scale — as it can offer more detailed and automated satellite data analysis. In the future, AI applications for satellite imagery are expected to expand on multiple levels.
